The Mongol rally is about adventure and the whole point is to bring a vehicle that makes getting to Mongolia just a little bit more difficult than it needs to be. That is why the 1.2 litre rule was introduced and applies to all participants in the Rally. This means big 4x4's are totally unacceptable, on the other hand small tiny granny cars are perfectly fine. So meet our blue beautiful fiat Seiciento!
In order to ensure our ability to complete the rally, we decided to pimp our beast (50 horse power) and give it a profound make over. As we do not even know how to change a wheel, we asked for support from our mechanical guru, mr. T (he prefers to remain anonymous). As expert in Dakar rallies, he was the perfect person to give our car a thorough check. This was one of the picture he sent halfway through the week, making our hearts jump...our beast taken apart!
By the end of the week it turned out that Mr. T had managed to transform our beast into a mini tank including extra super tick wheels, metal protection plate and bar, ultra clean filter, adjusted suspension and much more... ready for 13.420 km!
Besides, we learned 3 additional rules from our mechanical guru in order to be able to make it over mountains, deserts, rivers and some of the most remote terrain on the planet:
1. Revision: go over a routine each day to check the basics essentials and make sure your car will last for an extra day.
2. Piloting: it is the same that driving but... thinking! Our guru provided us with a course on crazy rally driving skills....sorry about the garden, mr. T!
3. Lose weight: no, not us, but the luggage...the less we take, the easier it is for our car. Well, we may go an diet as well!
